East Pikeland Township Properties Listed on the National Register of
Historic Places
Many residents may be surprised to learn that East Pikeland contains seven properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register was established by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, formed to preserve our country’s historic buildings, districts, sites, structures, and objects worth of preservation. Each property must meet at least one of the four main criteria:
1. Event: The property makes a contribution to the major pattern of American History
2. Person: Associated with significant people of the American past
3. Design/Construction: Concerns the distinctive characteristics of the building by its architecture and construction, including having great artistic value or being the work of a master
4. Information potential: Is satisfied if the property has yielded, or may be likely to yield information important to prehistory or history.
